4/26/2014 0 Comments What's Your Elevator PitchYou Must Have An Elevator Pitch
(20 seconds to 2 min. of content, to excite and describe your business effectively or the dream job) 1. Clarify your job target. As Yogi Berra famously said, “You’ve got to be very careful if you don’t know where you’re going, because you might not get there.” So when you begin putting an elevator pitch together, nail down the best way to describe your field and the type of job you’re pursuing. Until you can clearly explain the type of position you want, nobody can help you find it or hire you to do it. 2. Put it on paper Write down everything you’d want a prospective employer to know about your skills, accomplishments and work experiences that are relevant to your target position. Then grab a red pen and mercilessly delete everything that’s not critical to your pitch. Keep editing until you’ve got the speech down to a few key bullet points or sentences. Your goal is to interest the listener in learning more, not to tell your whole life story. So remove extraneous details that detract from your core message. 3. Format it A good pitch should answer three questions: Who are you? What do you do? What are you looking for? (MORE: Job Interview Advice Older Women Don’t Want to Hear) Here’s an example of how to begin a pitch that includes the essentials: “Hi. I am Jessica Hill. I am an accountant with 10 years experience in the insurance industry and I’m looking for opportunities in the Dallas area with both insurance and finance companies.” That speech would take about 15 seconds. Jessica would then want to use her next 15 seconds to add details about her unique selling proposition, special skills and specific ways she could help a potential employer. 4. Tailor the pitch to them, not you. It’s important to remember that the people listening to your speech will have their antennas tuned to WIFM (What’s in It for Me?) So be sure to focus your message on their needs. For example, this introduction: “I am a human resources professional with 10 years experience working for consumer products companies.” The pitch would be more powerful if you said, “I am a human resources professional with a strong track record in helping to identify and recruit top-level talent into management.” Using benefit-focused terminology will help convince an interviewer that you have the experience, savvy and skills to get the job done at his or her business. 5. Eliminate industry jargon. You need to make your pitch easy for anyone to understand, so avoid using acronyms and tech-speak that the average person or job interviewer might not understand. The last thing you want to do is make your listener feel stupid or uninformed. 6. Read your pitch out loud. As Fast Company’s Deborah Grayson Riegel recently pointed out in her article “The Problem With Your Elevator Pitch and How to Fix It,” writing is more formal and structured than speaking. If you’re not careful, your elevator pitch can come off sounding more like an infomercial than a conversation. The primary reason why people want to do business--because they connect with you. Not with your pitch, but with you. Here Are 5 Tips To Sound Like A Real Person: Don’t speak the way you write. “I help individuals, couples, and families make sound financial plans so that they don’t outlive their money” may read well on a website, but doesn’t sound the way people really talk. When speaking, you might start with, “I’m a financial planner, and I make sure my clients don’t outlive their money.” Much more compelling, genuine and even fun. Utilize common vernacular (aka, use the simplest language possible). Your organization’s mission statement may talk about serving “the growing population of at-risk adolescents” but most people would say “kids who are at risk” in regular conversation. So say that. Turn your pitch into a question. If you’re a professional organizer, ask “You know that pile of papers you’ve got somewhere in your house that you’ve been meaning to get through? As a professional organizer, I help people finally get through it.” Practice saying your pitch out loud, with feedback. Rehearse it until it sounds completely unrehearsed (ironic, but important), and then get feedback on how “real” you sound rather than how “polished” you come across. Be willing to forgo your pitch entirely. If you’re already making a warm connection with someone and they ask you what you do, don’t risk bringing a cold pitch into the conversation. Just say what you do--and more importantly, find out what the other person does and show genuine curiosity about them. Watch closely and listen deeply and learn to respond with care and understanding. Go Forth! REHEARSE 50-100 Times Rehearse your pitch out loud – 50-100 times – in front of a mirror or to a mentor, friends and family. You want to make sure you include every important point and that your pitch is on time. That said, don’t try to memorize your pitch verbatim – you want it to sound natural. When the conversation has ended, make sure your listener has your contact information. An eye-catching business card can serve as an effective reminder of what your business offers long after you’ve parted ways. Thanks for Visiting. . . Peace to you! 5 Steps To Self Talk That Will Transform You
By Lance Wallnau/ co-writer Eliza Dukes Self Talk, One of the most powerful factors in personal transformation is SELF TALK! If, as the Bible states, you are “transformed by the renewing of your mind,” how you think and what you say to yourself have to both be top factors in your transformation. So where do we begin? First, we need AWARENESS! The mischief regarding self talk is that it is so constant we seldom are aware we are doing it. You won’t always catch it, but you can be aware of how it makes you feel. Your emotions are wired to your thoughts – they are linked into a cause and effect sequence. As Paul wrote to the Romans: “The mind that is set on the flesh is death, but the mind that is set on the Spirit is life and peace.” So here are 5 steps that you can use: 1. When in an extreme negative state of feeling, ask…”What am I saying to myself right now?” Get clear on the thought or belief that you hold about yourself, others, or the situation in mind. 2. Ask – “Can I be absolutely certain that what I believe is true? How do I know?” Does what you are thinking actually line up with the Word of God? If not, what should you change? Again, if it’s the truth that sets you free, it’s a lie that holds you captive. What’s the lie at the root of this? Is there a subtle insinuation that “You are not enough?” or “You will not be loved?” or “You will lose something you value”? How do you know this is true? 3. Does this thought or attitude serve your ultimate best interests? Does it make you happy, calm, and fulfilled? 4. Does this attitude or belief get you more of what you want, need, and deserve? Is it taking you into your desired future, or is it leading you into circumstances that you don’t want? 5. MY FAVORITE STEP…… Since we all pretty much create our own meaning for things, what could you come up with as a new meaning for this situation? What new attitude or new belief could you create that would make this an exciting and positive experience for you? THIS last step is the practice of “Over-comers”! They work with the problem until they unearth the empowering belief that re-frames it. As the researcher Napoleon Hill discovered, every adversity carries within it the seeds of an equivalent or GREATER benefit of SUCCESS. Remember – if it’s the truth that sets you free, then it’s a lie that holds you captive. The lie you must overcome is that you need more preparation, money, time, experience, or confirmation. Look at the business graph I attached. The dotted line is your track and the solid line is the opportunity. 1. At first, you sense an opportunity. Your spirit gets a glimpse of something. 2. The moment arrives where you need to take action, see what works and what does not work and make adjustments. 3. You are over thinking, waiting to be certain, looking for confirmation. Over-analysis leads to uncertainty and the state of uncertainty opens the door to confusion as you entertain too many voices and ideas. 4. Failing to take action, you come down into a “wait and see” position and watch for the moment to step into action – and miss the window. What you needed to do is assess the situation and the opportunity and TAKE ACTION: run a pilot, test your assumptions, get in the game, take some sort of action and adapt and increase engagement! You will never feel fully ready because where you are going is always larger than where you have been. Learn this – GOD REWARDS RISK MORE THAN CAUTION! The parable Jesus taught about the talents is often misunderstood. The servant who feared making a mistake was punished and the servant who was aggressive about increasing market share for the Master was rewarded. Faith involves risk. BEWARE the confusion that breeds uncertainty when the time comes to ACT! Because of Obama Care Companies are forced to provide healthcare to everyone that works 25 hours or more. Since these companies like the one you work for want to cut healthcare cost, they will cut employees hours . Where does that leave you and your family? Do you have a Plan B? Have you thought about another stream of income? What is your ACTION PLAN if your hours are cut or your laid off? Think about it and leave a comment. . . . Downsizing will become the standard for American Companies! Less Hours, Less Pay, Less Freedom! By Eliza Dukes, Spiritual Biz Consultant 302-495-9494 4/23/2014 0 Comments No Strings Attached to KindnessACTS of Kindness have, No strings Attached.” These strings forward others to embrace God’s love as a result. Because we represent love, peace, joy all actions are impactful on many different levels. The “No Strings Attached” means is not to expect any personal gain, in doing acts of kindness. If you don't get a good response, SEED OF GOODNESS, are still sowed on your behalf. Rest, believe and do not pluck up those good seeds with negative attitudes or response....THINK you did your part, now let God increase the blessings in that person. (If you do respond negatively, STOP and ask GOD's forgiveness & that person nicely) Being mindful of this, helps disregard the pressures to respond selfishly. This act of kindness will allow a “Spiritual Attitude of Humility,” to rise and enforce Godly Authority and allow His peace to settle you.
What does this mean daily? Everyday, in every situation we’re challenged with choosing to be kind or evil. It’s just plain and simple. Ask yourself, “which seeds am I, growing the most, in my life. Knowing you and I plant seeds of goodness or seeds of evil each day. Each seed get watered and are far-reaching beyond our comprehension. Yet, our doing is revealing good and evil manifestations everywhere we look and don’t want to look. We see the state of this world in glimpses on television, internet, our neighborhoods and individual homes. Let’s Investigate: • Attitudes when your tired or? (Where do you draw from to get revived) • Unconscious Drivers (those on cell phones and running lights, #1 cutting you off) • At home before and after work, (un-grateful loved ones) • JOB or Business meetings (those who irritate you, racism, disrespect on que), • People Personalities (Ignorance aim at you, gossipers, complainers) • Waiting in long lines (avoiding them, procrastination and excuses) • Running Late (a personal struggle, infecting many areas and whatever else comes to mind?) Looking up, what pictures do your seeds film, when you examine your daily course of actions? How conscious are you, when displaying verbal and non-verbal actions. Do you ignore the warning signs, that uncion from the Holy Spirit speaking inside you, please ask yourself, now? SPIRITUAL FACT: When you spend time in God’s presence (reading, worshiping and listening for Him) you experience His loving kindness. You receive more healing, you get revived, renewed, refreshed and fulfilled. From this joyful experience, you can go forth empowered, to sow this same loving kindness. Because of God’s love for you and His graciousness, He imparted into you to prosper and be in health even your attitude towards self and others. “ You Know, You Do, but, You Don’t Do, You Don’t Really Know! NEGATIVE AFFECT: BUT, if you did not experience God’s presence( moody, no patience, mouth out of control, emoitionally drained, lonely, etc.) then you are operating on low or empty in the flesh. Now your patience and consciousness towards love and kindness compromised. Your radar is not in Spiritual Mindset zone. Your radar is in danger zone. And the enemy is watching to challenge all of your weakness. ACTION FACT: Small actions and non-verbal actions count big. We as sensitive ladies, can simply smile at each other, this kind act of approval, sends a signal of peace and acceptance. Actively making eye to eye contact, acknowledging one another, may be the action step that saves someone’s life in a powerful way. Love and kindness are best friends! Do your part to think and respond appropriately with thoughts and acts of loving kindness. Sow much more love and kindness today and every day! "Go Forth, Shine in Peace with Loving Kindness! Taking time to say words that generate peace is one great way, I start my day. As I awaken to a new day, my body tries to tell me, how to feel and my mind tries to decide, what to do and not to do, this is my daily quest. Immediately, I decide to take control of these emotions and thoughts, doing what's best for me. As I start stretching, I can feel the pressures being released, in each groan. Now, my mind and body begin to embrace this simple pleasure. Don't get it twisted, just try it for yourself. Stretch gently and slowly, your arms & legs stretching straight as you lay in the bed. It will do wonders and help release toxins to eliminate waste. Remember to take it slow and do a little at a time. Stretching and breathing deep, will relax you within. Thoughts pour in, I begin to speak words to over power, every negative thought, I disagree with. I SAY "I will prevail today in all things as Christ's anointing makes me strong, I am powerful and wise to overcome each challenge, today. I continue to SAY this, over and over again, until peace fills me! BAM! Peace starts flowing into my mind because my thoughts are connecting to the source of my strength. Now, I can breathe deeper, think clearer, stand stronger. My mind, body and soul are working as one. This morning routine allows me to enjoy every second of this exercise.
